A quick rundown
Royal Free is a high profile acute NHS Trust in London delivering healthcare at Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital in London. They combine world class expertise with leading healthcare that is local, patient focused and friendly. They appointed Frank in March 2023 to deliver their new public facing website.
Our solution
We kicked things off with the Royal Free by diving into a detailed scoping process. We held several engagement sessions to get a real feel for what their users needed and preferred. We spoke with staff and service users, using virtual voting software to gather feedback on draft designs, functionality, and user navigation.
This phase gave us revised designs, informed how pages would be laid out, and what the site should be able to do.
We delivered the main public-facing website, incorporating bespoke features like easy print/save to PDF options, user feedback on each page, and content update timestamps. We also worked to support them to convert their patient leaflets to web pages, making them more accessible to users with screen readers.
The site reflects the Royal Free branding with high-quality photography, providing a friendly, visual representation of the Trust.
The feedback has been very positive, and we have continued our digital partnership with the Royal Free by further developing the site. For example, delivering a recent migration of content following the joining of North Middlesex University Hospital.

What did they say?
Frank’s expertise was evident throughout the redevelopment of the Royal Free London website.
Right from the start of working together, as we researched our users and then turned that learning into jigsaw pieces that ultimately became our new website, Frank’s knowledge, experience and advice was crucial.
Their flexibility, strong processes and rigour to decision-making ensured the project ran successfully and on time. I’m really pleased with our new website, and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Frank as we evolve and improve it further.
